The Feel of the FallLate fall, nearly winter. The air is crisp, the leaves dry and fallen from the trees. Gusts of wind swirl them around and a snap of cold has one draw up their collar closer to their cheeks.In the village there's the smell of pine, the smoke of fireplaces and woodstoves. The cinnamon aroma of an occasional apple or pumpkin pie baking. Through the day folks briskly keep up with their chores and perform the tasks of preparing for the cold weather. Trucks loaded with firewood shuttle up and down the mountain streets. The sun begins to set behind the mountains. Things quiet down and families settle down to dinner. Afterwards, a good book and a hot chocolate. The clouds creep silently down the side of the mountain into the valley. They rise and leave traces of wet snow, the flakes melt instantly as they touch the still warm earth. |
